Smaller Churches

The CBA is committed to encouraging smaller churches in their ministry & mission. Mary Moody is the Regional Minister who has a particular focus on these churches and she would welcome your contact.

Hilary Taylor also has a long-standing commitment to smaller churches and has been instrumental in setting up a national network (see below) or visit the Baptists Together website.

Small Church Hubs

The BU have planted 21 Small Church Hubs so far with more to come, to bring the smaller churches together for training, events, celebrations and resourcing.

The churches forming the hub are within 30 minutes drive of the host church, where there is a welcome, car parking and good facilities. There is also an online hub across the Southern Counties Baptist Association (SCBA) and Eastern Baptist Association (EBA).

The hubs provide opportunities to meet, talk, pray, listen and dream about how God wants his church to reach out to those who are lost. To ask ‘What is in your hand? Who have you got? How are they gifted? What are they passionate about? and Who is outside your door?’

They also offer training such as a gifting workshop (based on Ephesians 4), a Making Disciples workshop (BigLife) and Governance training. Other events for fellowship, creativity and retreat have been well received.

Hub 22 is to be launched in December in the Cambridge area, on social media for young adults only. Other locations will be added during 2026

If you would like to explore the idea of your church being a hub, do contact Hilary Taylor.

A Warm Hello

Welcome to the website of The Central Baptist Association. We look after about 150 Baptist churches across Northamptonshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire, including Milton Keynes.  If you are looking to find a specific church near you then please click here.

Who we are

We have a team of four Regional Ministers, led by Lisa Kerry, alongside Mary Moody, Nathan Toseland and Andrew Openshaw. Andrew is also the association secretary. Our moderator is Maureen Hider and our treasurer is Roy Farrant. Jane Day is the course tutor for The Learning Collective.

What we do

We support ministers and churches by 'walking together in ministry and mission'. This includes providing pastoral care for ministers, advice to churches, guiding the settlement process, encouraging churches in their mission, providing training opportunities, encouraging networking, talking ecumenically, and offering small grants.
